Profile

My research career began with a focus on the formation of reactive products in indoor environments and their implications for human health. Over time, my work has expanded to include ambient studies of atmospheric aerosols across the Northern Hemisphere, including the Arctic region. I am particularly interested in both natural and anthropogenic sources of atmospheric aerosols and their impacts on climate, air quality, and human health, including occupational exposure environments.

Research

As an atmospheric chemist, my research focuses on the chemical transformation of organic compounds in the atmosphere, with particular emphasis on particle formation and growth processes and their implications for air quality and climate. I primarily use advanced mass spectrometry techniques, especially online methods such as AMS/ACSM and PTR-MS. In addition, I apply optical techniques, including aethalometers and optical particle sizers, to obtain detailed chemical and physical information about atmospheric particles. Together, these approaches provide insights into emission sources and transformation mechanisms in the atmosphere.

Teaching activities

I teach Atmospheric Environmental Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen and serve as an external examiner within the Danish Corps of External Examiners (Censorkorpset). I have supervised and co-supervised both PhD and Master’s students and have served as an opponent at PhD defenses in Denmark and abroad.

Collaborations

I am actively involved in national and Arctic air quality monitoring programs, including ACTRIS-DK, as well as in several research projects related to climate, air quality, and occupational exposure.

My collaboration network includes Aarhus University, the University of Copenhagen, Lund University (Sweden), the University of Helsinki (Finland), the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland), and the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM, CSIC, Spain), among others. I am also affiliated as an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen.
